Track your site progress

Beyond the basics, SEO ranking is an art. In the Search Engine Results pages ("SERPs"), search for your website by domain name. It's a misunderstanding that websites rank in search engines; web pages rank for specific topics or keywords.

For better SEO, look at the websites that rank higher for your topic, subject or keyword. What do they offer that you don't? How many words on their page? How many photos? Consider revising your web page to be more useful to your visitor.

If the web page in the top spot is 2000 words, with photos and written in the current year, consider a slightly different, narrower "long-tail" subject. Google gives you suggestions of other subjects being searched at the bottom of each page. Click on one of these that interests you and ask yourself if you can write a better page than the top spot for this subject.
